Orientation day 1 & 2

Sorry for not updating sooner. I had trouble with the wifi yesterday so I'm combining the last 2 days.

Yesterday I had my first breakfast and shower at home. Breakfast was very good ( I had a croissant, cereal, yogurt, some cookie things, and orange juice). The first shower experience was interesting. Especially considering there is no shower curtain in the tub. Luckily, I didn't make much of a mess. In the afternoon I headed into town to meet up with my group at the Duomo. We then had a practical tour (24/7 farmacia=pharmacy, bancomat=ATM, etc.) we then had our program orientation that went over some rules and aspects of the program. After all that was over a bunch of us went to the phone store to buy cell phones. The cheapest phone was 29€ and we chose to do the 4€ a week plan which gives us free calls and texts between other users of that company. Almost everyone went with the same company so we all can stay in contact easily. So I paid 49€ and got a phone, the SIM card as well as 5 weeks of service so far. When the € on my phone is up I can go to that store or any tabachi ( which sell phone cards, stamps, newspapers and the like) to recharge the phone. (They don't say recharge minutes.) I then headed home and was greeted with the wonderful smells of my mother cooking dinner. We had pasta with bacon in the sauce, a ciabatta roll, and chicken. Last night I played with my dog for quite a while. He brings his towel to you and plays tug of war. It's nice having pets! However, last night I could not get the cat off of my bed so I could go to sleep. I finally had to get my brother Andrea to come move her.

Today I had to be at our school for orientation at 9am so I set 3 alarms to make sure I was up. None of them went off. :( luckily I was able to get ready in 30 minutes and caught the bus and made it at 9:01am. At that meeting we went over the academic portion of our program and received our schedule. (I will post this later.) We then had a tour of the neighborhood that our school is in and then had lunch at a neighborhood restaurant. (Minestrone, a type of pork chop, and a DELICIOUS chocolate cake.) After, one of our directors took us to a grocery store to show us how things work and some specific products/brands that are good and some to avoid. You HAVE to wear a plastic glove when touching la frutta e le verdure (fruits and vegetables). You also weigh it there yourself and print the ticket and attach it to your bag before you go to check out. I found quite a few interesting things. Which I will post some pictures of later, when I can upload them from my computer. I was very excited to find asiago cheese (my favorite) and it was not that expensive (because it doesn't have to be imported!). Tonight I'm at an apartment of a few of my friends from my program. We are making an Italian dinner on our own. I made the bruschetta. We also have pasta and some potatoes. I bought a mini chocolate cake and some baci for dessert. Well that is all for now! I will post those pictures tonight or tomorrow hopefully, along with my class schedule.
A dopo.
